[So as soon as Ray and Venkman hang up the previous day Ray instantly grabbed Egon (perhaps a little literally) to drag them to the New Bark ferry. He hasn't stopped complaining once through the whole venture, and even the next day he's still a huge Grump about the whole deal. He's not even focusing on the food he got for lunch he's so busy complaining.
Thank god Egon is so patient.]
Can you believe that jerk?! After all we've been through he just abandons us! To think he's our boyfriend...
[Egon, on the other hand, does not seem bothered by this arrangement in the slightest. He sits across from Ray, his plate having been loaded with all sorts of snacks and sugary pastries that probably isn't what one would normally eat as lunch food. At Ray's insistence, he also took one whole piece of fish.
He takes a bite of cake, raising an eyebrow.]
He's probably just as excited as you to finally see Winston in person after so many months. [A pause.] You're sure this Winston is from your dimension?
It still couldn't hurt to tell us his plans before he was already on his way! thought it would be fun if we all went together and made a fun trip outta it!
[He takes a bite of his sandwich and calms down at the question.]
I had a voice chat with him and he sounded identical to my Winston, and he acted pretty similar to mine; if he's not exactly like the one from my dimension, he's similar enough that I don't care at all if he's from another dimension! Why?
I simply find it interesting, that's all. Perhaps it's your dimension's close encounters with a variety of supernatural phenomena that enable individuals from your dimension to cross over more easily.
[He's not mad about it--he just genuinely curious about it. The cake that Egon was eating somehow disappeared between Egon's question and Ray's response.]
[Ray pauses, before sliding the plate over to Egon.]
You can have it.
[Ray fiddles with his coffee cup as he's distracted by alternate dimensions.]
Still, it's a shame I haven't been able to meet more people from your dimension, or other dimensions that have ghostbusters in them! I betcha there's countless amounts like that!
Maybe one day I should actually try working on the interdimensional portal I've been wanting to build.
[Egon happily obliges, taking Ray's dessert and immediately taking a bite of it.]
I look forward to one day meeting them, perhaps. Even if we do eventually return to our respective worlds, I would gladly help you in that endeavor. After all, creating an interdimensional portal shouldn't take too much effort on our part.
[A pause.] Perhaps just as much work as it took us to create the containment unit.
Yeah! It can't be that hard; after all the containment unit practically contains its own pocket dimension already! It should be a snap for us to build a two-way portal.
[He smiles a little at the kiss, reaching up his hand to touch his cheek.]
I doubt we would really need to hide our operations once we are seen as a suitable business that intends to capture and secure dangerous spirits. Surely they will understand our pursuit of scientific endeavors.
[And sometimes they do dangerous stuff, like put babies and quantum physics together.]
Ah, before I forget--after the events at Camp Alph, I have actually been working on a simple guide to the spirits of this universe.
[He clears his throat, looking almost embarrassed.]
It's not much right now--just a few hundred pages of unedited material. I haven't even gotten around to formatting it or proofreading it. And it is only on the Ghost-type Pokémon I have actually worked first-hand with.
[He turns to dig through his bag and pulls out a thick stack of loose papers about a half-inch thick and gently places it on the table in front of Ray. He picks up his fork again to start munching on a plate of calamari, gesturing with his utensil as he speaks.]
So far, I've gone over the general behavioral tendencies of Ghost Pokémon, Phantump and Trevenant, Drifloon and Drifblim, Mimikyu, and Sandygast.
[Ray stifles a laugh. He doesn't mind Egon seeming embarrassed, and besides he is quickly distracted by the thick stack of papers. He idly starts skimming it, not letting go of Egon's hand.]
I can also help with the Pokemon I have- except maybe not Scooby. I love him but he doesn't have the typical behavior tendencies of Gastlys. And Venkman has that Litwick now too.
[Egon nods, idly running his thumb over Ray's hand.]
Any contributions would be greatly appreciated. I plan to have this finished sometime next year. More extensive research must be done to support certain claims, as accuracy is a necessity in this situation. Not to mention the editing, and the publishing, and all other details.
[Has Ray forgotten about Venkman running off, yet?]
[Ray gently takes Egon's hand and nuzzles against it for a moment.]
I gotta say... as much as I love exploring this new dimension, I really miss spending whole days performing experiments with you. Even when we stay in hotels, there's not enough proper lab space for it.
[Egon's expression softens ever so slightly as he gently lifts Ray's hand to kiss it.]
We can always work at the Pokémon Centers we work at. But that is only a temporary solution.
[Somehow, he feels that the centers might not appreciate rogue scientists running about the hallways performing perfectly valid science experiments....]
It would be ideal if we could find a place to rent out a lab area or such. That way, whenever we wanted to conduct a new experiment, we could return to the facility.
Weeeell... I have been thinking about possibly getting a lab in Saffron or Goldenrod- with the train linking the two it would be a quick six hour train ride to each region and all the warp points and it would be a snap to get there for an emergency experiment.
Is that so? Do you know if it's true clairvoyance or merely sensing ripples of psychokinetic energy through space-time? Maybe if we do some research, we'll be able to harness this power ourselves.
[Apparently, Egon never paid much attention to those stories that were like "seeing into the future and basing your decisions on that is bad". He also very much sounds like a Pokémon villain right now.]
'Dunno! The Pokedex entries just say they can "sense disasters", so we should try testing it out!
[His expression soften slightly as he looks at Egon.]
I think you might like them anyway. Apparently people assumed they were the cause of the disasters because they would show up right before, and would drive them deep into the mountains out of hatred for the poor things.
Most people hold a fear of the unknown and the unnatural world. It's almost shameful how much people still are unaware of the supernatural and what it holds, especially as this universe actually has such prominent activity.
[Egon nods slowly, munching thoughtfully on a spoonful of Jello. After a few moments, he says--]

[... Was he angry about something?]

We'd have to get the materials first, of course. And we'd need a place to house the portal itself.
[He reaches out a hand to take Ray's hand and squeezes it lightly, staring out the window and looking upon the sea.]
We'd likely also have to convince law enforcement that we are not building anything dangerous, of course.
no subject
Well... I have been thinking about doing a daycare service, since we're breeders! We could probably hide our operations under that easily!
[True love is discussing hiding dangerous building stuff under a bunch of children.]

You're right- in a world full of monster that people have openly dealt with for millennia, it should be no problem convincing them.
[Ray suddenly beams at Egon at the mention of a spirit guide.]
You have?! You gotta show me what you have down so far!

Well we should have plenty of time to work on this! Unless we go back home out of nowhere, but there's no use worrying about it now!
... You know since we're alone again, we could do more research on Honedge.
[Romantic gestures for these two: getting their life force stolen.]
no subject
We'd need to establish certain safety procedures, of course. But yes, we should.
[They're going to both die without Venkman or Winston to help them.]
After we eat. I'd hate to not have finished my meal and possibly be possessed.

That would work well. Not to mention its proximity to Lavender Town. We would have the chance to study new supernatural phenomena up close.
[Unseen by Egon, one of the containment units in his bag rocks violently back and forth at the mention of the town.]
no subject
Yeah! Annie and Kirby could use a visit to their home town anyway.
And I hear that there's this really cool Pokemon that lives in the nearby cave that can predict future disasters! Cool and useful!

A classic Frankenstein response.
[...???]

They're apparently peaceful creatures too! They normally don't even like fighting despite being a dark type.
... And if we wanna perform experiments, it might be nice to have one on hand if something's gonna blow up!
[...Maybe not... the best reason to get one......]
